It conducts monetary and exchange-rate policy, sets the base rate, issues the Moldovan leu, licenses and supervises banks, manages the state&#039;s foreign exchange reserves and keeps the payment system running.<\/p>\n<p>For residents, the BNM is where damaged banknotes and worn coins can be exchanged under the conditions it sets. Its website publishes official exchange rates, the register of licensed banks and financial literacy materials. If a problem with a commercial bank remains unresolved, you can file a petition with the BNM.
