National Blood Transfusion Centre
Clinics & Hospitals in Centre, Chișinău
Centrul Național de Transfuzie a Sângelui (CNTS) at 11 Academiei Street in the Centru district is the institution coordinating the blood service of the Republic of Moldova and the country's only blood bank. The first transfusion centre opened in 1940; it has occupied the current building since 1993. It is not a clinic for patients but a place for donors.
Blood and blood components are collected, tested and processed here before going to hospitals across the country; therapeutic plasmapheresis and donor tests with same-day results are also available. Donors are received on weekdays and Saturday mornings, with online booking on the website or via the information desk; the current blood stock by group is published online. The centre has branches in Bălți and Cahul and a production unit at 65 Gheorghe Asachi Street.
Donor opinions are mostly positive: staff are described as attentive and quick, and many write that one donation saves up to three lives. Complaints are rare and concern failed venipunctures and, occasionally, the tone of some employees.
