Clinicl Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopaedics
Clinics & Hospitals in Buiucani, Chișinău
Spitalul Clinic de Traumatologie și Ortopedie (IMSP SCTO) at 190 Ștefan cel Mare Boulevard in the Buiucani district is the national hospital specialising in musculoskeletal conditions, opened in 1964 at the initiative of Nicolae Testemițanu and moved in 1977 into the buildings of the former Republican Clinical Hospital. The reception and consultative unit work on weekdays; the exact schedule is not published on the website.
The hospital has wards of orthopaedics and traumatology, spine surgery, septic and reconstructive traumatology, large-joint replacement, hand surgery, burns and plastic surgery — the only one in the country with air-fluidised beds — orthopaedic rehabilitation, physiotherapy, intensive care, imaging, a laboratory, a transfusion room and a human tissue and cell bank. The national large-joint replacement programme runs here, with a waiting list managed together with CNAM. Admission requires a referral and insurance; consultations and some services are available for a fee.
Patient opinions are divided: recent reviews praise the doctors' professionalism and clear explanations and the surgical team, but complain about the tone of the reception and some nurses, a lack of empathy and treatments prescribed without investigations.
