National Opera and Ballet Theatre “Maria Bieșu”

The Maria Bieșu National Opera and Ballet Theatre is Moldova’s main stage for opera and ballet, named after the celebrated soprano. Its repertoire includes classic operas such as La Traviata, Carmen and Madama Butterfly, ballets like Spartacus and Cipollino, as well as symphonic and gala concerts featuring the theatre’s soloists, choir and orchestra.
The building stands at 152 Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard in central Chișinău. Audiences are highly satisfied: reviews repeatedly praise the strength of the productions, the sets and costumes, the singers’ voices and the thrill of a first visit to the opera. Some visitors note shortcomings in seating comfort and organisation.
