National Art Museum of Moldova
Museum / gallery in Buiucani, Chișinău
The National Art Museum of Moldova, founded in 1939, stands at 115 Strada 31 August 1989 in central Chișinău. Its holdings, among the richest in the country, span painting, graphic art, sculpture and decorative art, both Moldovan and international.
There are two permanent displays — national art and world art — alongside a steady programme of temporary exhibitions, an annual conference, events and interactive activities. The museum runs its own restoration department and also manages the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God.
Visitors are highly satisfied, praising the handsome, spacious building, bright halls that are good for photos, inexpensive tickets and friendly staff. Some found the display smaller than expected, and the rules on shooting with professional cameras have caused friction, so check them in advance.
