Alexander Pushkin House Museum
Museum / gallery in Râșcani, Chișinău
The Alexander Pushkin House Museum stands at 19 Anton Pann Street in the old part of Chișinău. The house, then owned by the merchant Naumov, was where the poet lived for his first months in Chișinău after arriving in exile in autumn 1820. It became a museum in 1948 and is listed as an architectural monument of national importance.
The site combines the small memorial house, furnished in the style of the period, with a literary exhibition of documents, books, engravings and objects linked to Pushkin’s Bessarabian years and the people he met here. Groups and school visits are best arranged in advance.
Visitors are highly satisfied, saying the museum “keeps the flavour of the era” and that they learned a lot about the poet. Some feel the displays are due for renovation and wish the staff offered at least a short introduction. Contacts are in the listing.
