IMF cuts Moldova’s 2027 growth forecast to 2.3%
The International Monetary Fund expects Moldova’s economy to grow by 2.3% in 2027, down from its earlier forecast of 3.2%. The figures come from the World Economic Outlook published on 13 October.
Average inflation is projected at 7.4% in 2026, after 7.8% in 2025, and 9% in 2027. The current account deficit is expected to reach 22% of GDP in 2026, up from 19.7% in 2025, and 22.8% in 2027. Unemployment is estimated at 6.8% in 2026 and 3.6% in 2027.
An IMF mission is expected in Chisinau next week. Finance Minister Victoria Belous discussed its agenda at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok. In May, Moldova and the IMF reached a staff-level agreement on a new three-year Policy Coordination Instrument, which provides no direct funding.
What it means for you
- A projected 9% inflation in 2027 means higher costs for inputs, rent and wages — factor it into next year’s budget and pricing.
- Slow growth may keep domestic demand weak; export-oriented businesses are less exposed.
- Watch the IMF mission’s conclusions: they may shape tax policy and the 2027 budget.
