The General Directorate for the Protection of Children's Rights (DGPDC) is the Chișinău Municipal Council body responsible for protecting children at risk and children without parental care. Through its sector offices and network of services it handles guardianship, foster placement, adoption and family reintegration.
People turn to DGPDC when a child needs protection — neglect, abuse, lack of parental care or children living on the street. The directorate runs day centres for at-risk children, a personal assistance service for children with severe disabilities, a placement centre for mothers with children and community centres supporting families.
