UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, protects people forced to flee their country and helps states uphold their rights. In Moldova it works with the authorities and partners on asylum, the protection of refugees and stateless persons and their inclusion in local communities, including the response to refugee arrivals from Ukraine.
Refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless people turn to UNHCR and its partners for information on the asylum procedure and temporary protection, legal counselling, support for people with specific needs, and referrals to social, health and education services. Asylum applications themselves are lodged with the competent national authority, while UNHCR and partners provide information and assistance.

La intrare se aflau un bărbat în vârstă și o femeie de serviciu care nici măcar nu știau ce este UNHCR. Nu vorbeau engleză și erau foarte indiferenți. Acest lucru nu ar trebui să se întâmple în timpul procesului de aderare la UE; nu au personal care să ofere informațiile necesare solicitanților de azil.
