Inspectoratul General pentru Migrație, bd. Ștefan cel Mare 124
Public institutions & embassies in Centre, Chișinău
The General Inspectorate for Migration (IGM), part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, has its central office at 124 Ștefan cel Mare Boulevard in the Centru sector. On Google the listing still carries the former name, Migration and Asylum Bureau.
Foreign nationals come here on residence matters; reviews show that residence permit applications are submitted here, including for children. Appointments are booked online, and IGM runs a call centre and a free hotline for questions.
Visitor experience is more often negative: some complain about long queues even with an online booking, procedures they find cumbersome, paying fees at the cashier and frequently changing requirements. Others describe the staff as responsive and polite and advise coming early in the morning with a complete file.
Call centre: +373 22 820 007, hotline: 0 800 01527, email: [email protected]. Check required documents, booking rules and schedules on the official website igm.gov.md.

Good luck if you need anything done here.

What can I say about this office? Completely disappointed. There is no support at all, and you are treated like an “animal” from the beginning of the process until the end. Like in other public offices, the staff is incompetent, always tired, and above all, they don’t explain anything. In fact, there is only one thing they explain clearly: “How fast do you want your residence permit?”—simply because you have to pay, and in my opinion, not a small amount. Moldova is a developing country, but the people working in these state offices are mostly incompetent. Only a very few love their work, keep up to date, and actually know how to help you. On top of that, the address on Maps is wrong.

I have used the Bureau of Migration/Immigration every year since arriving in Moldova in 2021. The office has moved to Strada Lev Tolstoi, 40 and the new location is much better. The service is a bureaucratic process (as in any similar service in the world) but the staff is professional and efficient. I feel the service has imporved each year I go through the process.

What a nightmare! I have had the displeasure of coming here two years in a row and seeing no improvement in costumer service. Here are the major issues: 1. You take a ticket, wait all day, only for someone to tell you an hour before closing that based on your position in the queue you will not be seen. Please then do not issue me a ticket and waste my time, if you knew from the outset that I was unlikely to get an appointment. 2. Not one of the staff members speak English. You are an immigration bureau and English is the predominate international language. 3. The lunch break is ridiculous. Just stagger your lunches, so more people can get seen.
