Yandex Go given 20 days to disclose owners and beneficiaries
On 15 October, Moldova’s Council for Examining Investments Important for State Security (CEIISS) decided to review Yandex Go’s investment activity in the country. The company has 20 days to submit documents on its ownership structure and ultimate beneficial owners.
In parallel, the National Center for Personal Data Protection will report on how the platform collects, stores and transfers user data. Depending on the findings, the Council may impose conditions or restrictions, require the sale of stakes or suspend operations.
According to the government, Yandex Go does not provide taxi services itself: local operators pay the platform a 12% commission per ride plus 20% VAT on that commission. In 2025 this VAT brought about 12.5 million lei to the budget. Taxi operators paid roughly 216 million lei in taxes and contributions last year, 42% more than in 2024. The tax service found discrepancies in about half of the rides made by 8,781 drivers and is continuing its checks.
What it means for you
- For now the app works as usual — only the start of the review has been announced.
- Taxi companies relying on the platform should have a backup plan: other aggregators or direct bookings.
- Drivers and operators should make sure ride income is declared correctly — tax checks are ongoing.
